Life is very, very serious. God makes it so. He makes everything matter. From the smallest caterpillar to the largest storm. From the gentlest smile to the greatest sin. From heaven to hell, everything that happens and everything we do truly matters to God.
Being good matters. And He is very serious about sin. Intensely so. He sees lust as adultery and hatred as murder (see Matthew 5:21-22; Matthew 5:27-30). He is serious about our hearts. He longs jealously for us and yearns for our love in return (James 4:5). He is serious about our prayers. Every prayer He hears and takes into consideration. He loves to hear our prayers. He is serious about our obedience. He smiles at the smallest act of mercy and rejoices at all bold efforts to share His word (Matthew 10:42).
God is an intense God. He demands full commitment to Him. He pleads for our full attention: “Beloved of God, come to me and find rest!”
Are you tired of flippancy and shallow, on-the-surface conversation? Are you frustrated with people binging on Netflix and buying things they don’t need? Are you like me, crying out, “What has this world come to?” Staring at screens, talking about entertainment–the list could go on and on. People are so afraid to look deep inside their hearts. Most of all, people are terrified to look deep inside God’s heart.
How do we get out of this mess? By getting intense about God. Proverbs 1:7 says,“Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.“
The fear of the Lord means taking life seriously. Not taking it for granted but living it fully for the God who looks deep inside our hearts and sees the worst of our sins.
Take your life seriously. Take Him seriously. The reality is, you will be judged for each one of your actions, whether good or bad.
He means business. Don’t be a fool. Your life matters. Submit to Him, and live.
Then you will find abundant life. Then you will find freedom. Then your life will be blessed, and you will find great joy in your relationship with the Lord.
Don’t wait. Jesus is coming soon. Do you want Him to come back while you’re playing on your phone, watching a bad show, or lusting after someone in your heart?
Do not be a fool, dear soul.
He longs for you with a jealous longing. He’s extravagantly passionate about you, and He takes you seriously.
Will you be intense about Him, too?
