Is Jesus your everything?
He seriously should be.
He is not just a crutch to rely on, but He is your wheelchair to glide on. He isn’t something to look to only in a dire situation, He is the tight rope to walk on in every situation, never looking to the right or to the left. Fix your eyes on Him as Peter did walking on the water, ignoring the waves about Him.
“He said, ‘Come.’ So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, ‘Lord, save me.’ Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, ‘O you of little faith, why did you doubt?’ And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.” Matthew 14:19-32
For many people out there, perversity is a huge struggle. Lustful thoughts are extremely offensive to God. Jesus goes to the extent of suggesting we cut off our hand to keep us from sinning, as he talks about lust to a crowd of people.
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.” – Matthew 5:27-30
Perversity is of the devil. Just as much as we want the devil out of our lives, kill the perversity in your mind. Guard your mind, so you will guard your life from the perversity’s destruction.
We must learn to fix our eyes on Jesus, and let everything else grow strangely dim. As Francesca Batistelli’s song goes,
“But when I fix my eyes on all that You are
Then every doubt I feel
Deep in my heart
Grows strangely dim
All my worries fade
And fall to the ground
‘Cause when I seek Your face
And don’t look around
Any place I’m in
Grows strangely dim” “Strangely Dim” by Francesca Batistelli
We simply need to trust in Jesus and let perverse thoughts fade in the distance. No more of them, in Jesus’ name! Don’t give a second glance at perversity. As soon as it comes to your mind, rebuke it in Jesus’ name and keep going on with your day. Look around you. Look at what needs to be done. Get your mind focused and relaxed on Jesus Christ and his plans for your day.
You are so much more than a man or woman with perverse thoughts. You are a royal son or daughter of the King. Know your worth. Don’t be ashamed of who you are. Seek God and His righteousness with all your heart. He will SO heal you. He will SO rescue you from the pit of death.
Don’t be afraid. As Proverbs 3:5 says, trust in Him with ALL your heart, not just half of it. Give yourself to God. All of yourself. Jesus really can be your everything. And believe me, when He becomes that to you, you will NEVER be disappointed.
“Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.” 1 John 2:15-17
